Dedicated Micros DVR Repairs

Repair work on Dedicated Micros DVRs does not have to carried out by the manufacturer itself; once the warranty has expired, users and engineers are free to choose who they want to work with or potentially fix their CCTV equipment. Sending to manufacturers can be timely and sometimes more costly. If the unit is out of warranty or maybe your CCTV company has gone out of business, there are very little options available to end users and some CCTV companies.
To send a unit to the manufacturers usually requires returning back through an authorised trade outlet or registered installer who has an account and generally from the original place of purchase. This is sometimes not an option to the vast majority of users and leaves them with very little options. This is where InSync IT can be of benefit to you or your company. If your DVR becomes faulty or requires attention, InSync IT can repair your unit to original manufacturer’s specification using specified parts.
Below is a list of some of the commons problems we can fix on Dedicated Micros DVRs:
Crashing & Rebooting
– If your DVR is crashing or rebooting without any obvious reason we can investigate the issue and repair.Flashing Red Light
– If your unit is not booting or freezing with a flashing light on the front panel, this usually means there is a serious problem with the DVR. We can run diagnostics, inspect and repair your unit.Units Not Recording / Playing Back
– If the DVR isn’t recording or playing back this could mean the hard disk or a main component has failed. We can run diagnostics to find out the source of the problem and repair with any parts required.Freezing & Intermittent Recordings / Playback
– If the recording or playing back is intermittent or has missing footage this could mean the hard disk or other main component has failed. We can run diagnostics to find out the source of the problem and repair with any parts needed.Error Messages
– We can inspect and repair any error messages that appear on your DVR, using diagnostics software we can log the problem and then repair.Noisy or Failed Chassis/Caddy/PSU Fans
– It is important to replace any fans that have become noisy as this generally indicates they are about to fail or have failed and could lead to the units overheating and ultimately other costly components failing as well as possible lost recordings. We can supply and install the chassis fans with like for like equipment.Noisy or Failed Caddy Fans
– On DVRs with drive caddies such as the BX2, faulty fans can cause the hard disks to fail in that caddy. In general if one caddy fan set is failing or has failed, the others are soon to follow. Some of the caddies have 2 fans per caddy plus the chassis and PSU fan. We can make the necessary replacements for new and clean out any dust from the caddies.Noisy or Failed Power Supply Fans
– These fans are integral to the power supplies and generally means a new power supply is required if these fail, as without the fan the power supply overheats in a short space of time, and either fails or causes damage to the DVR and its components. We can save money by replacing the power supply fans before any damage is caused. As with any fans they are there for a reason and if noisy or have failed it is extremely important to replace them as soon as possible.CD/DVD Writer Failures
– We can clean or try to repair and recover existing writers. If this isn’t possible we can swap out faulty CDRW/DVDRW for refurbished or new units as per requirements.Hard Disk Failures
– One major issue with DVRs is the hard disks, these are spinning 24 hours a day 7 days a week without downtime, in certain circumstances such as hot or dusty environments or just due to age, these can fail. They will either fail instantly or slowly causing multiple issues with the DVR. We can diagnose and check hard disks sector by sector and if necessary replace the drive for a new or refurbished replacement. You also have the option to upgrade the drive size should you wish.No Video Output
– If you are not getting a video output from the DVR we can inspect and resolve these issues.Codec Issues
– Codec problems can cause many different issues on the DVR, we can run diagnostics to see if a codec is at fault and if required, repair the problem.Dead or Unresponsive
– If your DVR is dead or will not respond, we can inspect and repair this problem.Power Supply Problems
– If the DVR is having power issues or it is completely dead, then we can resolve the problem with the existing PSU or replace your power supply for a new one.Password Removal & Reset
– We can remove all passwords on the DVR whether it be the front panel, web, ftp or any other password, then default them to factory values.Remote Mobile App Problems
– If you’re having issues connecting with the official or third party mobile apps to your DVR we can investigate this issue and resolve.Halted In Bootloader
– This is a common fault that is caused by many issues, we can rectify this after running any required diagnostics.Disc Problem - May be Wrong FAT Version. Suggest Using Monitor to Reformat Disk
– We can resolve this issue with your DVR and return it to full operation.IP / Network Address Reset / Change
– If you require your IP address or network settings to be changed or you are unsure of or lost the IP address we can reset or change this to what your require.

Dedicated Micros DVR Servicing

The DVR is the heart of any CCTV Security System, regular maintenance and servicing of the recording equipment ensures that any existing or potential impending faults are identified and picked up before they cause failure of the DVR or critical recordings.
Most issues only become apparent when the evidence or playback footage is required from the DVR unit with many people finding out the hard way that the DVR hasn’t been recording when it matters the most. This could be a costly problem and may invalidate insurance claims. Many end users or CCTV operators see the images on the CCTV monitor and can even move cameras to different locations and assume that the system is functioning as it should when in reality, this is not always the case. DVRs usually display live images even when the recordings are not taking place.
Servicing and maintaining the DVR can prevent loss of critical recordings of that captured important security event and extends the life expectancy of the hardware. A simple common fault such as a failed fan can be costly, as when this fails the temperature of the unit increases which introduces stress on the components as they heat up, causing the power supply to overload and the hard disk to slowly fail. Catching these problems early is of high importance to ensure your DVR functions flawlessly, how it should and that it remains recording that vital CCTV footage.
If you have a DVR that you want to use as a loan unit or for resale we can refurbish these ready for the new loan or resale client. We will service the unit to the required standard and wipe any data to government standards from previous clients which will enable you to reuse the unit helping with Data Protection.
We can offer servicing and refurbishing of DVRs at different levels which will include some or all of the following:
Weak Components Replaced
– If required we will repalce any known weak components ensuring any potentially impending faults are prevented.Video Store Flushed
– We can upon request, reset the video store and remove any existing footage on the DVR. Additionally we can also wipe the hard disks to government standards to help with Data Protection.Factory Defaults Reset
– We can reset all settings on the DVR to factory defaults including any unknown passwords that may be locked in and that have been forgotten, unknown or left from previous install companies.Hard Disk Sector By Sector Integrity Check
–The hard disk in a DVR plays a very important role of storing the CCTV footage, if there is problems with this then the whole CCTV system can be compromised. When doing a full service we test the existing hard disks for bad sectors by testing each individual byte on the hard disk. This is a very lengthy process but ensures the DVRs integrity. Bad sectors cause DVRs to freeze or skip recordings and this could be at a critical point of an event. These bad sectors will only get worse and spread. We can attempt to repair and recover the existing disk, but if the disk is badly damaged then we can replace the disk with a refurbished drive or a brand new one depending on the requirements.Diagnostics Check
– We can run diagnostics on any DVR to check if there are any non-obvious issues that are not apparent from normal operation. We are able to resolve and if required replace parts or upgrade any software.CDRW / DVDRW Lens and Tray Clean
– We will clean the drive tray and also the lens with special cleaning fluid to remove any dust or contamination to ensure correct CD/DVD drive operation.CDRW / DVDRW Read Test
– We run files from CDs to check the read lens of the CDRW/DVDRW and to ensure it is fully functional.CDRW / DVDRW Burn Test
- We burn test footage from the DVR to ensure the burn lens of the CDRW/DVDRW is fully functional. All Passwords Defaulted
– If required we can remove or default any passwords that have be created or changed on the DVR.Codec Clean
– We will clean each individual codec and reseat them and if necessary calibrate them.Codec Integrity Check
– After cleaning the codecs we will then run diagnostics on them to make sure they are functioning correctly.Fan Clean / Replacement
– We will clean any moving parts such as fans and if required replace them.Power Supply Clean
– The power supply contains a fan which draws air through the power supply, this can cause it to clog up and air flow is restricted causing overheating. We can clean the PSU and if necessary replace the fan.Chassis Clean Inside and Out
– We remove and clean out all the dust and contamination from inside the DVR to ensure maximum airflow and operation. We also remove all dirt and clean the exterior of the DVR before returning it back to you.Soak Testing
– All units are soak tested for at least 24 hours or longer if required. Using a video Matrix, each unit is tested with multiple cameras at the same time; playing back and recording to load test the DVR.Video Inputs and Outputs Tested
– We will test the DVRs inputs and outputs, to ensure all are functional.Network Card Tested
– We will test the network card to ensure full communications can be made on the network between a computer and the DVR.Web Console Tested
– We ensure a connection can be made to the web console on the DVR, where we will log in and obtain footage or live images from the web interface.

Dedicated Micros DVR Upgrades

As well as repairs, servicing and maintaining, we offer upgrade services to any Dedicated Micros DVRs.
Upgrading can allow for expansions of existing systems or additional features as well as enabling higher quality and longer CCTV footage recordings.
Upgrading your existing DVR can remove the need to move to expensive new hardware and saving the cost of buying a new DVR to replace the existing one.
Here is a list of some of the types of upgrade we can offer:
Storage & Hard Disk Size Upgrades
– We can upgrade your DVRs hard disks to increase storage space, which ultimately allows you to record for longer and at a higher quality. If your DVR has limited space and you have to use low settings or you want to record 24/7 without the need for activations or alarms recording then you will need large amounts of storage space. Likewise if you require 30 days or more or wish to increase your frame rate PPS, image size quality or profile settings then you will need to add or upgrade your storage. We offer several upgrade options depending on the DVR model. Options to upgrade your units to 80GB, 160GB, 250GB, 320GB, 500GB, 750GB, 1000GB, 1500GB, 2000GB, 4000GB, 6000GB or 8000GB are available. In doing so, it will give you the capacity to record at higher settings for longer and all the time without being restricted to low quality recordings for short time frames.Software Upgrades
– Software upgrades enable your DVR to have the latest fixes and features that have been released since your DVR rolled out of the factory. Fixes include bugs within the menus or problems with features on the DVR and feature additions such as compatibility with new equipment, dome protocols or remote viewing applications.Firmware Upgrades
– Firmware upgrades are similar to software upgrades but these are stored on flash ROMs on the PCB, we can flash and upgrade the ROM to the latest versions again to resolve any bugs or problems with the DVR i.e. the firmware sometimes gets corrupted and required to be upgraded.Bootloader Upgrades
– The bootloader is what the DVR boots from and again upgrading this can enhance the DVRs performance and resolve out any issues with the DVR. On newer models the bootloader upgrade along with a software upgrade introduces new more user friendly menu layouts and interfaces.NetVu Upgrades
– Some of the older legacy DVRs that use network Viewer can be upgraded to be NetVu compatible so they can be used on sites with the NetVu application along with the mobile applications too. This removes the need to run NetVu and Network Viewer application at the same time.Mobile App Compatibility Upgrades
– We can upgrade some DVRs to become compatible with and use the official iOS or Android mobile apps from Dedicated Micros or even upgrade some of the earlier legacy DVRs to be compatible with 3rd party mobile apps such as IP Cam and Total Control.
If you require further information on our Dedicated Micros DVR upgrade services, pricing or require a quotation, please don't hesitate to contact us today by phone on 0161 806 1188, via the Contact Us & Enquires link on the menu or by emailing us directly on info@insync-it.co.uk
